What a dental implant actually is
Our dentists understand the pain and frustration that comes from broken or missing teeth, and although we do our best to save a tooth every time, that is not always possible. A dental implant is the next best thing to the tooth you lost.
The implant itself is a small titanium screw placed into your jawbone, where it takes the place of the natural root. Once it has integrated with the bone, an abutment and a custom-made crown are fitted on top. The result looks and behaves like a natural tooth: you can eat, bite and speak normally again.
If you want to replace all of your teeth and full implants are not realistic financially, we also offer All-on-4, where a fixed bridge is secured to four implants for a more affordable and stable result.

Imaging and planning
Every implant case starts with a CBCT cone beam scan at our clinic. The 3D image shows exactly how much bone is available and where the nerves and sinuses sit, so the implant position is planned before you are in the chair rather than judged on the day.
Where there is not enough bone to hold an implant, bone grafting or a sinus lift can build the site up first. We will tell you at the consultation if that applies to you, and what it adds to the cost and the timeline.
How the treatment runs

Consultation and CBCT scan
A complimentary consultation including a 3D cone beam scan, so we can confirm whether you are suitable and give you a written quote.

Implant placement
The titanium implant is placed under local anaesthetic, with sedation available if you would prefer it. Most patients are back to normal the next day.

Healing and integration
The implant fuses with the bone over roughly three to six months. A temporary tooth can bridge the gap in the meantime where appearance matters.

Abutment and crown
Once the implant is stable, we fit the abutment and your custom crown, matched to the shade and shape of your own teeth.

Prices are a guide to an average case. Your actual cost depends on your medical circumstances, the number of implants and the materials used. Prices shown apply to our Yokine clinic; south coast pricing can differ because operating costs outside the metro area are higher.
Common questions
How long do dental implants last?
With good hygiene and regular check-ups, an implant can last decades. The crown on top is the part more likely to need replacing over time, much like any other restoration.
Does getting an implant hurt?
The placement is done under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Most patients describe the recovery as milder than a tooth extraction and manage it with over-the-counter pain relief.
Can I use my super to pay for implants?
In some circumstances, yes. Early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds can be applied to dental treatment through SuperCare. We can point you to the process, though the decision rests with the ATO.
Should I travel overseas for cheaper implants?
The Australian Dental Association strongly urges Australians to have dental surgery in Australia, as the risks outweigh the savings. Follow-up care, warranty and accountability are all much harder to obtain once you are home.
