Call first, then come in

Emergency appointments must be booked by phone, before 9pm. Call (08) 9440 3654 and tell us what has happened. If you can get to the clinic within thirty minutes, our dentists will wait for you.

Many nights our Yokine clinic is open until 11pm, and there have been cases where our dentists have stayed back until 2am to help someone through a bad night. Please always ring before you set out, so we know you are coming.

What counts as a dental emergency

• Severe toothache that will not settle with pain relief
• A knocked-out tooth: keep it in milk or saliva, never water, and come straight in
• A broken or chipped tooth, particularly with a sharp edge or exposed nerve
• Facial or gum swelling, which can indicate an abscess
• A lost filling or crown leaving a sensitive tooth exposed
• Bleeding that will not stop after an extraction
• Trauma to the mouth from a fall or a sporting injury

What to do before you arrive

For a knocked-out adult tooth, handle it by the crown and not the root, and keep it moist in milk. Time matters enormously here.

For swelling, take the pain relief you would normally take and get in as soon as you can. Facial swelling that is spreading toward the eye or affecting your breathing or swallowing is a hospital emergency, not a dental one: call 000.
