Bridge or implant
A bridge is quicker and does not involve surgery, which makes it a good option where the neighbouring teeth already need crowns anyway. The trade-off is that those teeth have to be prepared, and if either of them fails later the whole bridge is affected.
An implant leaves the adjacent teeth untouched and is usually the better long-term answer when they are healthy. We can help you decide based on the location of the missing tooth, aesthetic considerations and cost.
How the appointment works
Your dentist examines the gap and the teeth on either side, takes X-rays where needed, and discusses whether a bridge is the right option for you. That is also when we explain the treatment plan, the timing and the cost, before anything begins.
Common questions
How long does a dental bridge last?
A well-made bridge commonly lasts ten to fifteen years. What usually ends its life is decay in one of the supporting teeth, so cleaning under the bridge matters more than anything else.
How long does the procedure take?
Usually two appointments a couple of weeks apart: one to prepare the teeth and take the impression, and one to fit the finished bridge. You wear a temporary in between.
