Metal braces
Metal brackets are the workhorse of orthodontics. They handle rotations, severe crowding and bite corrections that aligners struggle with, and because they are fixed in place there is no compliance problem: they work whether or not you remember them.
They are also relatively easy to clean around, which matters if your teeth build up plaque quickly. Metal braces typically range from $3,000 to $4,000 per set, and some health funds will cover a portion.
Clear braces
Clear brackets work the same way as metal ones but are made from a tooth-coloured ceramic, so they are far less obvious in photographs and across a meeting table. They cost a little more and are slightly more fragile.
If appearance is the main reason you are hesitating about braces, this is worth discussing before you rule fixed treatment out.
Common questions
Braces or Invisalign?
Aligners suit mild to moderate crowding and spacing and are far less visible. Fixed braces handle severe rotations and bite corrections more reliably. At the consultation we will tell you if your case can realistically be done either way, and if it cannot.
How often do I need appointments?
Roughly every six to eight weeks for an adjustment. Each visit is short.
